I was a little apprehensive when Paul D'Orleans at The Vintagent ordered Ezy Ryders! He's been a historian of MC culture for a long time, and authored the crucial read "Chopper: The Real Story." It was such a cool surprise to see his very positive review of Ezy Ryders. Read it here.
NBC News + Ezy Ryders
Thrilled to share this piece from NBC News on the Ezy Ryders book!
I really like this part:
“The book flows like an oral history and has the intimate feel of an old group of friends sharing stories at the end of a party, long after most guests have left.”

Excited to share this Ezy Ryders interview with writer Eva Clifford in U.K. publication WhyNow.
Ezy Ryders Production Updates
August 12, 2022: The books have landed and are now shipping! I’m mailing books daily, in the order in which they were pre-sold. I have a backlog from the Kickstarter campaign and web pre-orders, so I appreciate your patience. Feel free to reach out info[at]catedingley.com if you’d like more information.
July 26, 2022: The shipping company has updated us that we should be receiving the books soon! We’ll begin shipping the books out immediately upon receiving them.
June 7, 2022: We expect the books to ship to the EU & UK in June. US books are expected to arrive late July.
Ezy Ryders completed printing at Narayana Press, one of Europe’s highest-quality and most high-tech printing houses. From there, the pages were shipped to Germany where they were bound with the finest attention to detail. Today, the books are on their way back to the publisher in Denmark, where The Artist Edition will ship all Europe and UK-bound books directly. All books headed to the United States will be loaded onto a container ship to ship freight, hopefully as soon as possible.
Below, check out some photographs from the printing process at Narayana. I have no doubt this book will be worth the wait!
April, 2022: Our estimate as to when you can expect your copy of Ezy Ryders is June. Check back here, as I’ll be sharing news & updates along the way.
Work on the Ezy Ryders book continues, as we seem to have hit almost every snag and delay possible in the last two months. The project coordinator and the graphic designer at The Artist Edition (the publisher) both got nasty cases of Covid (now recovered), our printers, Narayana Press, have supply-chain issues with their sustainably-sourced paper stock, prices on everything went up, the list goes on... but I want to reassure you we are doing everything we can to get this book out into the world as quickly as we can! Everything is complete, we're just waiting for the green light from Narayana Press.
In the meantime, check out our new cover design!
Ezy Ryders Book Announcement
I'm thrilled to announce that The Artist Edition will be publishing my first monograph, Ezy Ryders, in Spring 2022.
Ezy Ryders follows the trials and triumphs of New York City's black motorcycle clubs, as they denounce respectability, defy stereotypes, and find freedom within their community and on their bikes. The book spans five years of photographing, and includes personal interviews with ten riders.
Journalist and advocate Jimmie Briggs contributes a foreword, and rider in the scene Imir Leveque clarifies the culture’s terminology and traditions with his “Biker’s Glossary.”
From November 17-December 17, 2021, we raised funds for the book’s design and printing via a Kickstarter pre-order. The book will be designed by Martin Farran-Lee, and it will be printed in Denmark at Narayana Press. We completed the Kickstarter 110% funded! Now, we get to work to finish the book’s design, get it proofed & printed, and shipped to all the folks who already pre-ordered. I can’t wait!
Girl Under Glass Artist Book Update
Details / From my series on Times Square’s last peep show, “Girl Under Glass.”
Last falI I decided to make a limited-edition artist book of the project. I wanted to share the series but the privacy of the women photographed was crucial, as many keep their work secret from friends and families. The book is small and intimate and somehow more special without the photographs living online. About half of the edition has sold. Here’s some more info:
/Softcover, 42 pages
/Edition of 50, hand numbered + signed
/23 monochrome photographs + text
/$25 plus shipping
The pulp fiction cover was scanned from a real book I found in a secret bookstore in an Upper-Eastside apartment, while in the middle of photographing the project. It was a serendipitous find and one of those things that makes you fall in love again with your city.
If you’re interested in ordering one of the remaining copies in the edition, do so here. Please note, I’m located in New York City and am in isolation. I appreciate your support and patience as the books will be delayed in shipment (you will be notified when they ship).
My Ride: The Wall Street Journal column becomes a book
Two stories I photographed in 2018 are included in the compendium: motorcycle designer Jeffrey Scales with his custom Harley-Davidson and artist Kurt Stocker (my grandfather!) with his 1954 International Harvester pickup truck.
From Rizzoli: "New York Times best-selling author and popular Wall Street Journal 'My Ride' columnist A.J. Baime selects the one hundred cars, motorcycles, and other vehicles to fill the dream garage. Stunning photography and Baime's engaging essays celebrate everything drivers love about their cars--from technical specifications to satisfy gearheads to intangibles like a driver's relationship with his or her car--making it truly 'my ride.'"
Find the book online (Rizzoli/Amazon) and in stores beginning today, September 17th.
Girl Under Glass artist book now available
In 2014 & 2015, I photographed inside Times Square’s last live peep show. My nostalgia for gritty midtown New York, derived from watching 1970s classics like Midnight Cowboy, was tempered after spending countless nights on the third floor of the porn shop where the cubicle booths entertained a wide variety of customers. The sleaze and hustle still exist in a few corners of the Disneyfied Deuce.
Four years after photographing I decided to make a small book. Disguised behind an old pulp fiction cover, “Girl Under Glass” is a signed and numbered edition of 50, and it includes 23 photographs and accompanying text. To protect the privacy of the women photographed, this intimate book format is the only way the full series can be viewed. If you’re interested, find instructions to purchase one of the limited edition here.
